The Chichester Park upgrades in Woodvale, Western Australia, represents a significant investment in community infrastructure, aimed at improving accessibility and safety for park users of all abilities. This project reflects a commitment to providing an inclusive recreational space for the local community. A crucial part of this transformation involved the integration of Moddex's innovative handrail and balustrade systems, specifically the Assistrail® Disability Handrails AR10 and AR150, and the Conectabal® Commercial Balustrades CB10 and CB40. These systems were instrumental in achieving the project's goals of enhanced accessibility and safety.

Project Overview

Chichester Park serves as a vital community hub, hosting a range of recreational activities and sports events. Prior to the upgrade, the park's infrastructure posed accessibility challenges, particularly for individuals with disabilities and mobility issues. Uneven pathways, inadequate handrails, and limited safety features were some of the key issues identified by the City of Joondalup. The park's redevelopment aimed to address these concerns by implementing state-of-the-art accessibility features, ensuring that all community members could enjoy the park's amenities.

Project Goals:

1. Enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities

2. Improve safety through robust balustrade systems

3. Create an inclusive environment for all park visitors

4. Align with local and national accessibility standard

To meet these objectives, the project team collaborated with Moddex, a leading provider of modular handrail and balustrade solutions. Moddex's systems are renowned for their adaptability, ease of installation, and compliance with rigorous safety standards.

Assistrail® Disability Handrails AR10 and AR150

The Assistrail® Disability Handrails AR10 and AR150 were selected to provide safe and accessible pathways throughout Chichester Park. These handrails are specifically designed to cater to individuals with disabilities, offering continuous support along pathways and at critical points such as ramps and stairs. The AR10 and AR150 models were chosen for their compliance with Australian Standards AS1428.1, ensuring they meet the necessary requirements for disability access.

The AR10 model is particularly suited for flat and gently sloping areas, providing a continuous grip for users, while the AR150 is designed for steeper gradients and ramps, featuring additional structural support. Together, these handrails enhance navigation for park visitors, promoting independence and confidence.

Conectabal® Commercial Balustrades CB10 and CB40

In addition to the handrails, the Conectabal® Commercial Balustrades CB10 and CB40 were installed to bolster safety across the park's elevated areas and walkways. The CB10 and CB40 balustrades offer robust protection against falls, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the park's views and facilities safely.

The CB10 model is ideal for low-level barriers, offering unobtrusive protection that blends seamlessly with the park's natural aesthetics. The CB40, on the other hand, is designed for higher-risk areas, providing a stronger barrier with increased durability. Both models are constructed from high-quality materials that resist corrosion and wear, making them ideal for outdoor environments.

Project Impact

The successful implementation of Moddex's handrail and balustrade systems has had a profound impact on Chichester Park. The enhanced accessibility features have made the park more welcoming to individuals with disabilities, seniors, and families with young children. The new infrastructure aligns with the City of Joondalup's commitment to inclusivity and community well-being.

Key Outcomes:

• Improved Accessibility: The Assistrail® handrails provide crucial support, allowing all visitors to navigate the park safely.

• Enhanced Safety: The Conectabal® balustrades offer reliable protection, ensuring a secure environment for recreational activities.

• Community Engagement: The upgrades have led to increased park usage, with more community events and activities taking place in the revitalised space.

• Compliance with Standards: The project meets all relevant accessibility and safety standards, setting a benchmark for future developments.

The Chichester Park upgrade showcases the positive impact of thoughtful design and quality infrastructure on community spaces. Through the integration of Moddex's Assistrail® and Conectabal® systems, the park has become a more accessible and safer environment for everyone. This project serves as a testament to the importance of inclusivity in public spaces and highlights Moddex's role in creating a world where accessibility is a standard, not an exception. As communities continue to prioritise inclusivity, projects like Chichester Park set the standard for future developments.
