Being wet and damp all the time, a bathroom tends to get dirty easily and needs extra care. Various problems may occur, such as a clogged toilet, clogged pipes, or a smelly bathroom that can be a major put off.
If a bathroom is well-designed and well-maintained, then these problems can be prevented. By keeping these common bathroom problems in the foreground, you can take some prevention measures to keep your bathroom comfortable and fully functioning for a long period of time.
Clogged Toilets
A clogged toilet can be caused by a lot of factors; one of them is the toilet position and the unfitting pipe system. To prevent this, make sure that the toilet is installed in a correct alignment with the position of the pipes and that you use sewer pipes with the right size. Avoid installing too many bends in the pipe system as they tend to collect waste over times and cause clogging.
Dirty Sinks

Besides toilets, sinks can also be another source of problems in a bathroom. People sometimes don’t pay much attention to a sink as it is mostly used only for brushing teeth and washing hands. This is exactly why homeowners often overlook the need for cleaning that dirt accumulates, the drain gets clogged, and the sink smells. Clean the sink routinely after use before dirt starts to accumulate. Choose a sink with a simple design, without many nooks that can collect dirt.
In case of clogging, you can use caustic soda to unclog. But keep in mind that caustic soda can damage the pipes when it is used too often and if your pipes are made of low-quality material.
Poor Ventilation

Dampness can be another source of problem. If the room is humid, mould can grow on mirrors and sanitary wares. Your bathroom will smell bad as well. To prevent this, install a good ventilation system in the bathroom. If it is not possible to make an opening, use an exhaust fan. The air circulation has to be kept fluid so that water doesn’t pool and dampen the bathroom.
Slippery Floor

Pooling water can make the floor slippery and this can be dangerous. When you are working on your bathroom design, pay much attention to the slope of the bathroom floors to enable water flowing smoothly into the floor drain. Use matte ceramic tiles. For more protection, apply an anti-slip coating to the bathroom floor.
Peeling Walls
Peeling walls are commonly caused by humidity. Walls not covered with ceramic tiles can be easily damaged and this can ruin the aesthetics. You can prevent this by installing an exhaust fan to minimize the dampness/humidity. You can also coat the walls with waterproof paint to keep it long-lasting.
Insects
Cockroaches thrive in a bathroom’s dirty, damp corners. They get there through the open floor drain or a gap on the wall or the floor. To prevent this, you can start by keeping your bathroom clean, and do not let dirt accumulates and attract cockroaches. Using a high-quality floor drain can also help to keep them away. If necessary, use insect repellents and block their ways in.
