Small Kitchen Ideas for Tiny Apartments

Small-sized dwellings mean smaller rooms, including the kitchen. For those who live in an apartment, space limitation is even more problematic because there is no more space to expand.
We may often see kitchens that look spacious, but building a convenient, functional, and visually pleasing kitchen does not always need a big space. Kitchen design could be made minimal, down to its essential elements, yet still versatile and looks nice.

In a limited space, multi-purpose concept can be applied to allow more functionality in a kitchen. For example, some parts of the kitchen countertop could be set as the dining area; a washing machine can be tucked away under the other part of the countertop.

This way, your tiny kitchen could serve many purposes: as a place to prepare, to serve, as well as to enjoy your food. Moreover, your kitchen could also serve as a laundry room. The concept of multi-purpose kitchen like this is found in many tiny apartments.

Attaching shelves to the kitchen wall is an effective way to add more storage space. You could opt for open shelves to bring a more spacious feel in the kitchen, or closed cabinets for a cleaner look. To maximize the storage room, cabinets can be expanded to fill the whole kitchen wall up to the ceiling. But keep in mind that the higher the cabinet, the more difficult it is to reach the storage areas.

Building a kitchen by applying I-line layout is also space saving, especially if it is adjacent to a wall. You could add full length shelves at the other end of the kitchen to store a refrigerator, or simply add an island table if the space allows.

Small kitchen requires you to make the most of the available space. Don't leave empty space unused. Take advantage of every space in the kitchen effectively. Place kitchen utensils and cutleries that are often used in easily accessible places. Besides saving time, the kitchen will appear cleaner and neater.
