As noted in NZBC Clause D1 Access Routes, accessible stairways and accessible ramps shall have handrails provided on both sides of accessible stairways and on both sides of accessible ramps where the ramp slope is steeper than 1 in 20.
Under NZBC Clause D1, there are a variety of stair types with differing requirements for stairway pitch, riser & tread lengths. This is so that people moving into, within or out of buildings can do so safely.
Traditional modular handrail connectors tend to be large and industrial looking, and prone to dust and water entrapment that can lead to rust or contamination.
A toeboard system is to be installed on walkways where;

GREENZONE® is an insect and termite barrier technology which integrates a compressible foam substrate with a termiticide creating significant savings in labour and materials to install a combined termite repellent and compressible foam layer.
Pre-construction termite barriers come in a variety of shapes and forms, both chemical and physical, of which there are positives, negatives, narrow minded positions, and broad trains of thought.

The facility currently provides services for the ageing population of the community. The design concept for this project grew from the notion of caring and connecting these community members.
