About Iwan Sastrawiguna Interior Design
Iwan is known for his attention to detail. Received his BFA degree in interior design from University of San Francisco (a cooperative program with Academy of Arts) in 1992. After 10 years living in California - getting his degree & working for Crate&Barrel and Neiman Marcus - in 1995 he decided to return to Jakarta Indonesia where he was born to help his family in their retail furniture chain. In 1999, Iwan opened his own practice. Iwan's grandfather was in a business of medicine and also an art collector in the 60’s. Iwan used to see his grandfather's painting collection from Indonesian renowned painter Basuki Abdullah to Lee Man Fong, and from antique celladon vases to carved wooden furnitures from different Chinese dinasty. Since childhood, Iwan enjoyed rearranging furnitures and home accessories at his parents' house. Not only that the house got a different ambiance, but he also got a personal satisfaction. His connection to interior design started as a child growing up in a family who started their furniture business in 1977 in the West Jakarta Old Town district. Everyday he was able to see imported & local products such as lightings, furnitures, and home accessories. At an early stage of his life, he began to observe the beauty of wooden cabinet’s finishing and the intricacy of crystal chandelier. He began to admire and appreciate these imported products from different part of the world.....
