Byron Bay film-lovers finally have their theatre back!
After four years in design and construction, Palace Cinemas Byron Bay has reopened with a new nine-screen cineplex as part of the Mercato on Byron retail centre.
POWE Architects worked for csarchitects and Hutchinson Builders to deliver the complex on a tight final programme and with the incredibly high level of finish and style that customers expect from the Palace family of Cinemas.
The finished cinema fits in well with the resort feel of the Byron Bay area. The adjacent restaurant precinct also adds to the ambience of the entertainment destination which, once again, provides residents and visitors to one of the biggest tourist destinations on the NSW North Coast with a premium movie experience.
The grand opening event in April showcased an innovative feature documentary “2040” from award-winning director Damon Gameau, that looks to the future, but is vitally important now. Gameau addressed the packed opening night crowd, that included many film and television personalities, who now base themselves in the areas around Byron Bay
Much to our own Iona Mansfield’s disappointment, Byron Bay local Chris Hemsworth was out of the country at the time, promoting his latest Avengers movie and couldn’t make the premier. She is still not over the disappointment.
This is our second cinema project with Palace Cinemas and we look forward to our next opportunity to work in the exciting cinema space.
