Important Compliance Update for R6.0 Insulation

From 1 October 2024, newly constructed homes in South Australia will be required to be seven-star energy efficient, up from six-star. While greater consideration will need to be given to accessible design allowing for South Australians with mobility limitations to transition through life stages in their own homes.

In the interest of keeping our customers informed, a key area of impact identified is the suitability of 10mm & 13mm Plasterboard to support the weight of R6.0 Insulation.

At the time of calculation, given the density of R6.0 Insulation is less than or equal to 3.12kg/m2 and an internal ceiling pressure of 0.375 kPa ultimate, it is important to note that:

• Stud spacing no more than 600mm centers
• Screw spacing no more than 300mm apart

This applies to both 10mm Spanshield & 13mm Mastashield.
