Mall café transformed withheat- and glare-control film
Description: Shopping Centre
Film: PolyZone Silver 20 Xtra
Contractor: Sankey Glass
Installer: Window Tinting Solutions
Project Task
The Gateway Shopping Centre in Langwarrin was designed to be an airy and attractive venue, with stunning Plexiglas skylight and roof arches providing a sense of space and light. But unfortunately for the café owners situated under the glazing, constant sunshine and soaring temperatures were ruining not only business, but also the food itself. With air conditioning unable to cope with the mounting heat from streaming sunlight, the mall management hung shadecloths
to block the light. Apart from being unsightly, the cloth did little to improve glare, and had no effect on the temperature. Despairing, the Gateway management contacted contractor Sankey Glass to upgrade the glazing with tinted glass.
Outcome
Installing the film via the roof from the exterior of the skylights ensured no disruption to business, and provided instant relief. In fact, with its highly reflective exterior, the PolyZone film actually cut both glare and solar energy entering the building by over 80%. The eating area directly beneath the glazing was the first to benefit from the drop in temperature and dazzle, with both staff and customers commenting on the vast improvement in café conditions. The Gateway management was satisfied not
only with the speedy, effective and cost-conscious solution provided by PolyZone Silver 20 Xtra, and but also with the on-going savings in cooling costs.
Solution
The team at Sankey Glass was familiar with a far more cost-effective measure than glazing replacement, and suggested. installing window film. They approached Ben Alchin from Window Tinting Solutions for the answer – PolyZone Silver 20 Xtra, a highly efficient reflective solar control window film, specifically developed by Hanita for use on plastic glazing.
