“ We have loved Billi taps for several years. Cold, hot and sparkling water on tap really appeals to our clients, and the taps are also aesthetically lovely, so it was a no-brainer recommending that a Bill tap be incorporated at No. 33.” - Jake Devlin, General Manager, Craig Linke Bespoke Building.
This thoughtful restoration sees a stately heritage listed property and a popular Burnside Hotel back in the day transformed into a family home that overlays the building’s grand volumes and entertainer’s spirit with the owners’ unique personality and bold sense of style.
This splendid transformation was brought to life by a boutique, multi-award winning builder from South Australia, Craig Linke Bespoke Building. The team not only assisted the clients with identifying the suitable architectural practice one of Adelaide’s leading design studios, Atelier Bond but worked with them end to end to ensure the success of the undertaking.
The home’s custom kitchen is the epitome of this fitting collaboration and the undeniable centre of the newly reconfigured property. Merging two smaller kitchens into one, generously-sized space, the project team created an entertainer’s dream defined by a rich and intricate palette, and an intuitive practicality of high-end appliances.
“Transforming this beautiful building back into one home included the reconfiguration of two small kitchens into one show-stopping space that not only looked incredible, but also met the client’s needs as a family who love to cook and entertain,” explains Craig Linke, the Managing Director of Craig Linke Bespoke Building.
While the design vision was anchored by the home’s rich heritage, embracing the structure of the original 1800s building came with some challenges. The new kitchen was built above an existing cellar, which created structural issues and an added level of difficulty in bringing this exquisite, and highly bespoke project to life, as well as up to the engineer’s requirements.
“The existing late 1800s blue stone walls were very out of level and square,” says Jake Devlin, the General Manager of Craig Linke Bespoke Building. “And the home’s state listed heritage facade necessitated the need to be careful when working with elements like the original sash window, which was carefully restored.”
With such an involved vision and unparalleled attention to detail underpinning this high-end conversion, the selection of kitchen appliances and fit-outs had to be informed by the same level of mindful precision, complement the space’s carefully curated bold design language and enhance the inhabitants’ lifestyle.
The refined silhouette of Billi’s signature Eco Sparkling drinking water system, coupled with the versatile palette and high-end functionality, made it the perfect choice for the project.
Confidently emerging from the deep ashen of the granite slab, the Gun Metal Grey finish gently augments the kitchen’s stand-out features the custom aged brass canopy which opulently grounds the space, the striking Verdi Alpi marble and the carefully hand-laid Palladiana flooring.
“We have loved Billi taps for several years. Cold, hot and sparkling water on tap really appeals to our clients, and the taps are also aesthetically lovely, so it was a no-brainer recommending that a Bill tap be incorporated at No. 33,” Jake enthuses. “The colour range made it very easy to select a suitable option for the project, too.”
To ensure that the decision-making process was as effortless as possible, Billi provided the clients with the 3D online specification tool as well as the physical samples of their entire range on site. They also provide a routine maintenance service to ensure the CO2 canisters never run out, further elevating the experience of the new space for the owners.
“We love working with Billi,” Craigs adds. “The products are high quality and we usually look to incorporate them in our kitchen builds. The end result at No. 33 is simply amazing. This kitchen is both aesthetically beautiful and extremely practical for a family who love to cook and entertain. The Billi product is a perfect luxury tap selection in the space and fits in seamlessly.”
The outstanding quality of the custom renovation has been recognised at a broad range of industry awards. Following the Master Builders Association SA Excellence Award win earlier this year, this magnificent space scooped not one but two trophies at the November Housing Industry Association’s Awards – the Renovated Kitchen Over $85,001 as well as the highly coveted Kitchen of the Year.
