Goldco® Security, recently honoured as the National Security Screen Association Medium Business Winner for 2024, has made an industry-leading move by utilising Capral's LocAl® Super Green low-carbon aluminium for its Amplimesh® Security range. This decision demonstrates Goldco®'s unwavering commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, reinforcing its position as a leader in the security screen manufacturing industry and at the forefront of sustainability practices.
Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium is a primary aluminium option produced using hydroelectricity, resulting in significantly lower embodied carbon. At just 4kg CO2e/1kg Al, it is among the lowest carbon virgin primary aluminium options available. By integrating this sustainable option into its operations, Goldco® Security is taking a bold step towards minimising its environmental impact while maintaining the highest product quality and performance standards.
Goldco® Security's dedication to sustainability is deeply rooted in its core values. Anthony Bialocerkowski, Goldco®'s managing director, comments:
"Our commitment to Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium is more than just a business decision; it reflects our core values. Sustainability and social responsibility are integral to our operations, and this move aligns perfectly with our commitment to positively impacting the environment and the community."
As part of its broader sustainability plan, Goldco® Security has actively participated in the ecoBiz program, a sustainability initiative by the Business Chamber Queensland in partnership with the Queensland Government. This program assists businesses to audit their resource use, manage carbon emissions, and reduce waste, water, and energy consumption.
Goldco®'s site at 51 Paradise Ave, Miami, underwent a comprehensive power utilisation audit, identifying several areas for improvement. A targeted replacement program upgraded all lighting to energy-efficient alternatives, aiming for a 10% reduction in power consumption. Remarkably, this initiative resulted in a substantial 19% reduction in power usage from September 2023 to May 2024 compared to the previous year, saving 700 kg in greenhouse gas emissions.
In late 2023, Goldco® conducted a waste audit, significantly enhancing its recycling efforts. The company increased its recycling streams from three to five, adding cardboard recycling and a timber pallet return program. This initiative substantially reduced general waste, halving the size of the general waste bin from 3m³ to 1.5m³ fortnightly.
Goldco® also prioritised water conservation by replacing all water taps with 5-star rated models. Over nine months, this change resulted in an average daily reduction of 124 litres of water used, 2.3 times less than the previous year.
The payback period for these initiatives is approximately 12 months, showcasing their financial viability. They have significantly reduced Goldco®'s operational costs while positively impacting the environment. These efforts contribute to Goldco®'s economic sustainability and align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
Donna Dupuis, Goldco®'s Capral Account Manager, expressed her support for Goldco®'s pioneering move:
"Goldco® Security's adoption of our LocAl® Super Green aluminium sets a powerful example for the industry. It demonstrates that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand, paving the way for a greener future."
Goldco® Security's commitment to sustainability through adopting Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium is a remarkable step towards a more eco-friendly and socially responsible industry. By leading the way in sustainable practices, Goldco® is enhancing its environmental credentials and inspiring other companies to follow, proving that enterprise and sustainability are not mutually exclusive but can drive positive change together.
