Hospitals are very busy places day and night and it is imperative that clear access is maintained for ambulances and other emergency vehicles. This is why Con-form Group was given just one day (a Sunday) to install 16 metres of acoustic louvre screens on a hospital roof in Melbourne.
It was part of a bigger HVAC&R system which also included an 8 metre by 8 metre Span+ platform and an Easy Walkway with an Easy Guardrail and ladder. Knowing that the crane was only allowed onsite for a few hours we made the decision to construct our Acoustic+ screen system in advance.
The beauty of Con-form Group screens and HVAC&R platforms is that they are modular. Usually they arrive as a “flat pack” and are assembled on the roof using basic tools. This is a straightforward process which allows for speedy installation.
The other advantage is the fact that our products are a unique lightweight design. Acoustic+ is available in a range of densities starting at just 7 kg per m2. This meant that it was easy work for the crane to lift whole sections at a time. As planned, our Manufacturing Centre pre-assembled the screens and they were quickly installed.
The beauty of Acoustic+ Louvres is that they inhibit unwanted noise (from plant equipment and ducting) from travelling out to surrounding properties, whilst the louvres allow air to flow through to the HVAC&R machinery to keep it running efficiently. A clever combination. And, they look great with their modern colour range.
The Span+ platform was installed beforehand so that the screens could be fixed to it. Apart from being modular (there is no need for welding or cutting on the roof) and lightweight (85% lighter than conventional structural steel), the Span+ platform has another standout feature: it is able to be attached to rafters with the minimum of roof penetration. Our installers only had to cut small square sections through which they lowered the proprietary stub columns. Traditional structural steel platforms can take weeks or even months to erect but we knew our installers could be in and out in just three days.
Not only are we able to provide a range of Custom Engineered Products which are Engineered To Order, we can beat the clock as well.
