Australian cities have typically favored quick-fix solutions, instead of investing in safe and accessible bicycle infrastructure. Cyclists are often sharing routes with pedestrians or cars, as bicycle networks tend to not be thoughtfully designed or planned out for the full needs of the rider. The rise of urban design around the world is promoting the creation of “complete streets,” balancing the needs of pedestrians, cars, bikes and public transport.
