National Secure Your Home Day – time for some Home Crimprovement

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reports that 194,100 Australian homes experienced a break-in over the last 12 months, and another estimated 193,300 experienced an attempted break-in.

This is why Crimsafe recommends that all homeowners do a little bit of ‘Home Crimprovement’ to improve their home security this month and get involved in National Secure Your Home Day, brought to you by our crime prevention partner, Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.

Throughout Secure September, do a little Home Crimprovement

Throughout September, Crimsafe and Neighbourhood Watch are encouraging all homeowners to do a little home improvement around their homes to improve their home security and, ultimately, their Secure Score.

Here are just some of the crimprovements you can make at home:

• Move your wheelie bins to a secure location, not against the house
• Lock your gates – both front and back with a solid padlock
• Lock your garden shed and garage
• Trim trees so crim’s have nowhere to hide
• Install security screens to protect from unwanted intruders
• Install cameras to deter criminals and monitor your home
• Fixed sliding doors can reduce the risk of a break-in
• Adding sensor lights can light up dark areas at night

What is Secure Score?
