The Advantages of HFO Blown XPS Insulation over CO2 Blown XPS
Here at DCtech we vend XPS (Extruded Polystyrene Foam), a popular insulation material used in a variety of constrution projects by clients.
The type of XPS we sell is HFO blown XPS (Hydrofluoroolefin), one of the newer and more advanced types of XPS insulation. But, what is HFO Blown XPS and what benefits does it posses when compared to CO2 blown XPS?
HFO blown XPS has a much lower GWP than CO2 blown XPS, making it a more eco-friendly choice. Its use results in a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the insulation material. HFO is also non-toxic and non-flammable, making it safer for workers during manufacturing and use.
HFO blown XPS offers superior insulation properties compared to CO2 blown XPS. HFO has a higher thermal resistance, which means that it can provide better insulation with a thinner layer of material. This can lead to cost savings in the long run as less material is required to achieve the same level of insulation. HFO-based XPS is also more resistant to moisture and water vapor, making it an ideal insulation material for areas with high humidity or moisture content.
One of the key advantages of HFO blown XPS is its resistance to moisture and water vapor. HFO foam is less permeable to water vapor than CO2 blown XPS, which means it can withstand moisture intrusion better. This helps to prevent mold and mildew growth and ensures that the insulation retains its insulation properties for longer.
HFO is a non-toxic and non-flammable blowing agent, making it safer for workers during the manufacturing process. On the other hand, CO2 blown XPS can be hazardous to workers due to the risk of carbon dioxide leaks. In addition, HFO blown XPS has a longer lifespan than CO2 blown XPS, which can result in fewer replacements and less waste over time.
HFO blown XPS is a superior insulation material compared to CO2 blown XPS in terms of its environmental impact, insulation properties, moisture resistance, lifespan, and safety. While it may be slightly more expensive than CO2 blown XPS, the long-term benefits in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability make it a worthwhile investment for any building or construction project.
