Hand Dryer Maintenance and Cleaning: How to Sanitize Your Restroom

Germs are everywhere—especially in restrooms. Just like you would never use the restroom without washing your hands afterward, it’s extremely important to make sure your facility’s restrooms are cleaned regularly to maintain a sanitary space and minimize the transmission of germs. But cleaning your facility’s restroom doesn’t just mean bleaching the toilets and washing the countertops, if you have hand dryers, that means cleaning those, too. A wide variety of bacteria and viruses are found in public restrooms, such as streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli, the hepatitis A virus, the common cold virus and more. But it’s also up to facility managers to keep their restrooms as sanitary as possible in the first place—especially since 95% of consumers will avoid an establishment in the future if they find the restroom to be dirty.

When cleaning your restroom, it’s important to make sure to hit all the high-touch surfaces with cleaner and disinfectant. These surfaces include toilets, urinals, sinks, door handles, fixtures and anything else that people touch often. Clean the toilet bowls with a treatment and use a brush to scrub the porcelain down after the solution has dwelled. Make sure to also completely wipe down any of the high-touch areas that were applied with cleaning agents. It’s also a good idea to mop the floors, refill trashes and wash the walls and mirrors in the restroom.
