Tight Curves Rolled On Site With KingZip
Perth Stadium Train Station's roof structure was elegantly designed by Hassell Studio using Kingspan's KingZip solution.
Perth Stadium Train Station was constructed in 2017 as part of the larger project for the precinct that included Optus Stadium. The station is the second biggest on the Transperth network and has the capacity to move 28,000 people per hour after an event.
The station's 6 platforms and concourse are sheltered by a broad roof structure, elegantly designed by Hassell using Kingspan's KingZip Building Envelope. Kingspan was engaged by Hassell during the early concept design phase as the KingZip system was the only product on the market capable of achieving the design geometry, aesthetic vision and life expectancy setout for the project.
With the station being in a corrosive environment near the Swan River, the KingZip system was manufactured in 1.2 mm aluminium and a high-build PVDF3 paint system to meet the life expectancy requirements of the Perth Transport Authority. Utilising Kingspan’s mobile rollforming capabilities, the KingZip system was manufactured and curved on site down a minimum radius of 2 m.
In addition, the project utilised perforated KingZip sheets on either side of the concourse sections to assist with natural ventilation and air flow for passengers travelling through. KingZip offers the benefits of flexibility in design, advanced structural, thermal, acoustic and fire performance, as well as exceptional long-term weatherisation and durability, and is cyclone and impact tested for wind regions C & D.
