Kōbe Cement Bonded Wood Composite
Kōbe Board is an environmentally friendly product combining the oldest and most used building materials of cement and wood to create an extremely versatile building board. Kōbe Board can be used both internally and externally. Kōbe Board can be worked with traditional woodworking tools meaning carpenters or cabinet makers can easily use and install our product using their traditional tools of trade such as track saws and drills.
Kōbe Board is produced using Grey Portland cement and eucalyptus wood chip from sustainable plantations to create a very dense but light weight board that has the durability of poured concrete but the versatility and workability of wood. Each eucalypt chip is encased in cement to create an extremely durable building material that not only has very good acoustic and thermal qualities but also high fire resistance. Kōbe Board, unlike traditional type building boards has neither crystallized silica, asbestos, formaldehyde, urea, arsenic nor any hazardous content.
In its natural finish it has a non-homogeneous formed concrete look but the finish can easily be stained/ painted or used as a substrate for other materials. Due to the product being cement, it is to be treated in a similar manner to concrete or cement in respect to sealing, staining / painting etc. Its uses are endless as it can be used internally or externally as cladding, walls, roofing, ceilings, soffits, flooring (structural or otherwise), decking, fencing, cabinet making, concrete bench tops with mitred edges, stair treads and risers, urban furniture and many other uses.
It has a very high Fire Rating of Group 1 as per the Building Control Act (BCA) and therefore can be used in situations where fire rating is required especially in commercial buildings in fire exits, fire stairs etc or as BBQ bench tops/fireplace surrounds etc.
