With the holidays finally wrapping up, the back-to-school season is now officially upon us. Cue the mad rush to buy last-minute school supplies, iron uniforms, and prepare lunchboxes!
As the kids head back to school, now is the perfect time to ensure the safety and security of your family – starting with the garage.
Here are Merlin’s three easy tips on how to safety-check your garage:
1. Service your garage door opener for a seamless school run
Picture this: It’s a school night, and the kids are struggling to get to sleep. As they’re finally dozing off, your partner arrives home, and the screeching garage door wakes the kids up!
When trying to get the family out the door on time for school and work, the last thing you need is tired children, a faulty door, or a flat garage door opener battery remote slowing you down.
If you’ve noticed strange noises, halting, or grinding hinting that your garage door isn’t working as well as it should be, then it may be time to consider a service.
Contact your Merlin dealer who can organise for a field service technician to assess your garage door opener and determine the problem. Our dealer network is the best in the business and will be sure to provide you with the best service to keep your garage door opener in top condition.
2. Safety beams – your extra pair of eyes
Whether it’s loading the kids into the car or managing playtime around the home, it can give you peace of mind to know that your garage has added safety features.
If you don’t have them already, now might be the time to consider installing safety beams – a garage door safety essential.
As a parent, it’s not always possible to watch your kids every second of the day. Merlin’s Protector System (Safety IR Beams) acts as a second set of eyes and reliably stops the garage door from closing when the beam is obstructed or broken.
Similar to those used in elevators, safety beams will prevent your garage door from closing if the beam is obstructed. If the beam is broken or obstructed, the garage door will begin auto-reversing within two seconds to prevent accidents – keeping your kids, property (and pets!) safe.
3. Stay in control and in the know with myQ
Merlin’s myQ technology will give you peace of mind around the home and garage. Through the myQ App, you can schedule door closing times even when you’re not at home, so you can have confidence knowing the door is timed to shut after the kids have left for school and you’ve headed to work.
Our smart myQ technology also allows you to receive alerts right to your phone. This can let you know when the kids have arrived home from school safely if they use the garage to access your home.
An added bonus? Now that we’re back to school nights, you’ll know whether your P-plater has made it home in time for curfew!
There’s also no need to worry about hiding that spare key under the doormat for teenagers after school. The kids can simply send you a message if they don’t have a key and you can open the garage door for them through the app.
By following these three easy steps, you can guarantee your garage will be up to date with the highest level of access, convenience and safety coming into the new school year.
