Ripponlea Estate, Showtime events,
Loud engines, roaring crowds, and pumping adrenaline. The Darwin Triple Crown is a real highlight of the Australian Supercars championship and, as the naming rights sponsor, Merlin was in the thick of the action.
The June race saw over 40,000 fans from all corners of the country come together to enjoy the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown. This particular event was extra special as it marked the inaugural Supercars Indigenous Round.
Taking place at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex, this monumental round paid homage to the Larrakia people whose land the event took place on. The Supercars looked striking, wrapped in Indigenous artworks designed by Larrakia artist Trent Lee.
In celebration of this historic event, Merlin called for Supercars fans across the country to throw their hat in the ring to win a ‘money-can’t-buy’ prize package, worth over $10,000.
Grant Emanuel, Director of Marketing and Strategic Partnerships at the Chamberlain Group ANZ, notes that this year’s round was one of the most exciting and meaningful to date.
“This year’s Darwin event was nothing short of spectacular, with one of the biggest turnouts to date. We’re thrilled that we could provide our lucky winner with a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the track, and a weekend they’ll never forget,” says Grant.
“We’re also extremely proud to be part of the inaugural Supercars Indigenous Round which saw a team of First Nations youths making their mark in the sport. We’re looking forward to seeing this round grow bigger and bigger each year.”
Merlin’s money-can’t-buy prize pack
Merlin’s competition offered one lucky winner, and three of their mates, the ultimate Supercars fan experience. The prize included return flights to Darwin, three nights’ accommodation and a Hot Lap in a Supercar. To top it off, the winner and their mates also received the Merlin ‘Best Seats in the House’ experience – a decked out, private marquee, right in front of the main straight.
The Supercars superfan
True-blue Supercars super-fan, Tania won this incredible prize package! T ught her husband and two friends along to enjoy the incredible experience with her.
“As a fan of Supercars, I go to the Darwin Triple Crown every year, but being able to experience the event from Merlin’s front row seats made this year very special. I had an absolute ball!” says Tania.
The most unforgettable moment for Tania was when she got the chance to take a hot lap with Broc Feeney, her favourite race car driver:
“While the prize package was incredible, the best moment for me by far was riding around the track with Mr. Broc Feeney. After so many years of watching the cars race from the stands, being in the passenger seat was almost unbelievable. It certainly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!”
“It was a fantastic weekend, especially as it was the first Indigenous round. I’m looking forward to seeing it continue in the future!”
Supercar safety at home
This partnership with Supercars was a seamless match for Merlin, as Supercars legend Greg Murphy has been a brand ambassador for the past three years.
As a racing pro, Greg Murphy knows a thing or two about risk – and that putting safety first is key to a great day at the track, and at home:
“There are safety risks in everything we do – whether it’s going 300km/h around the racetrack, kicking a footy in the yard, or even entering and exiting your home through your garage. Merlin understands that limiting potential risk is about control, and gives us the tools to keep our families safe and secure.”
