Not just another road project. Childs Road Upgrade is a flagship project for Victoria.
Delivered in partnership by Melbourne-based construction company Ace Contractors and Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) – this is a project that demonstrates that project innovation and collaboration are invaluable for progressive project success.
Spearheaded by the Victoria State Government, the Childs Road Upgrade is one of many major road upgrades that make up the grand infrastructure improvements being rolled out as a part of Victoria’s Big Build.
Aside from an innovative move to integrate more sustainable practices into the project, the Childs Road Upgrade is a benchmark-setting project for the future delivery of major road projects using Victoria’s new Program Delivery Approach (PDA).
Contracted for what we do best, Moddex was engaged by long-term partner Trident Perimeter Security to supply and install a vast selection of our complaint modular barrier systems.
Prior to the upgrade, Childs Road was subject to heavy traffic bottlenecks and choke points caused by the lack of lanes and a roundabout that was no longer supporting the traffic it received, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours.
The construction of a new bridge over Darebin Creek, 1.5km of extra driving lanes, new traffic lights and a new shared pathway is vastly improving the connectivity, safety and traffic flow of this important stretch.
Moddex supplied and installed more than 200 metres of Bridgerail™ Bridge Barriers to the new Childs Road bridge, 200 metres of Conectabal® Commercial Balustrades, more than 300 metres of Bikesafe® Bikeway Barriers to the new shared pathway and Tuffrail® Industrial Handrails to support the safety needs of pedestrians.
Road users on Childs Road are benefitting from safer and faster trips, while locals on foot or bicycle are benefiting from the newly constructed shared pathway that passersby the creek and the newly established ‘Darebin Creek Lookout’ which features aboriginal art that tells the story of ancient movements and campsites of the Wurundjeri-balluk and Wurundjeri-willam clans who lived on Darebin Creek.
Some impressive sustainable materials were incorporated into this project, like the 6 tonnes of recycled eMesh to replace traditional steel mesh and non-recycled plastic fibres, and 9.5 tonnes worth of compostable coffee grounds were integrated into the landscaping.
The Program Delivery Approach (PDA) is a project delivery model that depends on a collaborative partnership between MRPV, Design and Construction Panels (independent companies), to help create a more sustainable contractor and design market,
reduce procurement time and costs, facilitate better project planning, improve cost certainty, find solutions, and encourage innovation to improve project delivery.
The Childs Road Upgrade is a benchmark-setting project for the delivery of major road projects through Victoria’s new Program Delivery Approach (PDA) – delivered as a partnership between Melbourne-based construction company Ace Contractors and Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV).
Moddex has a long-standing reputation nationwide and indeed Victoria-wide as the leader in the specified modular barrier systems that meet the compliance needs of any project, whilst also supporting faster project delivery timeframes.
Our experience and expertise as a manufacturer, supplier and installer of complaint and safe barrier systems for major road projects and other major infrastructure projects are second to none.
