Every day, Otis colleagues lend their time and talent to lift their communities – through acts of service large and small performed on their own and with their teams. Below are some of their inspiring stories of service.
When Lau, the Senior Service Supervisor at Otis Hong Kong, first visited and sponsored an Inner Mongolian child through World Vision Hong Kong, he didn’t know the impact it would have on his life and career. But, soon after, he would sponsor another child, participate as a committee member supporting the organization, and eventually become Chair of the Hong Kong volunteer team.
“Volunteering has become a part of my life. I cannot imagine life without it,” Chi said.
His dedication to service has driven him to find even more ways of giving back. Today, Chi volunteers with multiple organizations and encourages others to get involved, as well.
An internal Otis program – 3 in’23 - challenges each colleague to volunteer at least three hours in 2023. No problem for Chi. And no problem for many others around the globe representing Otis in the communities where we live and work.
Colleagues like Gobinath, a Studies and Project Manager for Major Projects in France, has volunteered with Special Olympics for more than a decade. His visually impaired sister first inspired him to get involved, but he soon found the spark to devote more time and energy to the cause. The fulfillment he received from his volunteer efforts fed his soul and encouraged him to get other Otis colleagues involved.
That’s the same energy Duoduo, a Communications Manager in Otis China, felt after she volunteered with an organization helping visually impaired people run or walk a 5K course in Shanghai. It’s called ‘Running in the Dark’ and the group recruits volunteers to serve as guides to support the visually impaired to safely walk or run in the city.
Shanghai is a fast-paced metropolis, according to Qiu, which makes it difficult for people with visual impairments to exercise. Celebrating the ability to overcome obstacles is just one of the amazing ways volunteerism gives back to everyone involved.

Gabriel, Digital Technology Infrastructure Manager in Brazil, knows the mutual benefit of doing good, too, as he hosts a workshop in his community to help participants learn more about the parts, assembly and maintenance of computers. He helps those who are new to the job market close existing skills gaps and make them ready for the workforce.
Gabriel took his passion for computers and turned it into a lesson in altruism. Giving back came natural to him and, fortunately, it comes naturally to so many across Otis. Our global colleagues – 69,000 around the world – will dedicate thousands of hours to public service this year alone - helping our communities thrive, enriching the lives of many, and inspiring others to join the cause. One hour at a time.
