Otis’ manufacturing facility in Korea, recently achieved ISO14001 certification, becoming the latest Otis factory to accomplish this feat. To date, more than 90 percent of our factories have met the international standards for this certification.
Earlier this year, Otis announced ambitious long-term ESG targets, including having all factories reach ISO14001 certification by 2025.
Officially opening its doors midway through 2019, colleagues across functions at the Incheon-based facility actively collaborated on activities such as integrating the requirements of our robust EH&S management system and conducting environmental impact assessments of each department. Through these assessments, our colleagues also identified opportunities – and actions - to recycle an additional 30 percent of total waste in the near-term.
“We are proud to be recognized for our sustainability efforts and to demonstrate how we’re reducing the environmental impacts of our operations and communities,” said Jace Lee, Head of Operations & Engineering, Otis Korea. “Focusing on environmental initiatives has been part of our culture for decades and we look forward to continuing to build on these successes with our colleagues.”
During the ISO14001 certification process, auditors commented favorably on several of the site’s environmental initiatives including: Updated power consumption monitoring to reduce usage where possible, robust package recycling processes enabling boxes to be re-used, and leakage prevention measures in place for lubricant containers in the facility.
The Otis Korea Manufacturing Center produces an elevator controller for the company’s New Equipment and Modernization segment. Parts made at the facility support elevator installs both in Korea and throughout the surrounding region.
