Newest order means more than 500 Otis units installed across the Panama Metro System.
Otis (NYSE: OTIS), the world’s leading company for elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation and service, has been awarded a contract to supply and install 127 units for Line 3 of the Panama Metro, including more than 40 Gen2® elevators and 85 escalators.

In 2012, Otis was commissioned to design, manufacture, supply, install, test, commission and maintain the 40 elevators and 130 escalators for Line 1. Subsequently, in 2016, Otis was chosen to supply 65 elevators and 132 escalators for Line 2 - plus 3 elevators and 6 escalators for its extension - transporting more than 200,000 people daily.

About the equipment
The Otis Gen2 family of elevators revolutionized the industry by replacing conventional steel cables with polyurethane-coated flat belts. Gen2 elevators provide a smoother and quieter ride for passengers compared to conventional elevator systems. The compact control can be installed next to the upper floor door while the motor remains in the elevator shaft, eliminating the need for a separate machine room.
These elevators also feature the ReGenTM regenerative drive, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 75% compared to conventional systems with non-regenerative drives, reducing the impact on the subway's electrical system.
The 515NPE public escalator was designed to serve large urban transportation hubs, including subways, and enables an efficient, reliable and safe travel experience. The escalators are also equipped with a frequency inverter that allows them to adapt to varying passenger flows at different times.
