Otis Taiwan Lands Contract for New Terminal as Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Prepares for Travel Growth
Otis Taiwan will provide 278 elevators, escalators, and moving walkways – including more than 120 Gen2® elevators – for Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport’s new Terminal 3, one of the airport's major expansion projects. The new terminal, which will help the airport meet the demands of rising passenger traffic, is slated for completion by 2026. Otis (NYSE: OTIS) is the world’s leading elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation and service company.
Designed as a smart and green terminal, T3 aims to become a world-class hub in East Asia. Otis ReGen™ drive technology in elevators and escalators will reduce overall electricity consumption by capturing energy usually emitted as heat and returning it to the building as clean power, with a recycled energy measurement system to make the energy management more efficient and transparent. In addition, Otis Taiwan will install an enhanced control system to allow the operators to control the equipment remotely during emergencies, and multimedia displays in elevators will deliver timely and useful information to the passengers.
“We are honored to support T3 and be part of the airport ecosystem to realize its smart and green vision,” said Mr. Ian Lau, managing director of Otis Taiwan.
“Otis offers strong product support and has a successful track record in terms of project execution, project management, and service excellence, especially in major infrastructure projects worldwide,” said Mr. Fan Ryan, deputy project manager, RSEA Engineering Corporation. “As we are responsible for building the new terminal, we are impressed by Otis’ professionalism and product features, which make a practical and meaningful difference in a large-scale infrastructure project like T3.”
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport started operating commercially in 1979 and has since grown to be the 11th busiest airport in the world. It was ranked the best airport for its size in the Asia-Pacific region by Airports Council International. The new T3 will provide entertainment and leisure facilities to travelers while accommodating the rapid growth in passenger volume and economic activities in East Asia. The project is the largest single investment following Taiwan’s 10 major construction projects and is a flagship among the 12 iTaiwan Construction Projects.
