Otis Wins Two Project of the Year Awards

Industry trade outlet Elevator World recognizes new construction projects for the annual honor.

Elevator World magazine has selected two Otis Worldwide projects as winners in its annual Project of the Year awards. 22 Bishopsgate in London won in the Elevators, New Construction category, and the East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension in Hong Kong won in the Escalators, New Construction category.

22 Bishopsgate, London

At 61 stories and 912-feet (278-meters), 22 Bishopsgate is a people-first workplace in the heart of the City of London. Otis provided 53 elevators, including 26 double-deck units, some of which travel at 8 meters per second and are the fastest in London, as well as 10 escalators, including four to serve the landing floors of the double-deck units.

“A tremendous amount of time and effort came together from many to deliver this project. More than a dozen nationalities from across the Otis globe contributed to the success of this project, and together, we changed the London skyline forever,” said Andy Bierer, Otis Market Group Leader for the UK and Nordics.

East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension

The East Rail Line connects the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong Island. The new line significantly reduces commute time and enhances the overall railway network of Hong Kong SAR. Otis provided 42 escalators and 10 Gen2® elevators to this extension.

One of the most daunting hurdles the team faced was the complexity of the equipment installation below the existing Admiralty station, which remained in use during construction as a critical interchange moving thousands of passengers daily to other rail lines.

East Rail Line and 22 Bishopsgate will be highlighted in Elevator World’s January edition among other Project of the Year winners. Last year, Otis received a Project of the Year award in the Escalators, New Construction category for its work on the Taichung MRT in Taichung, Taiwan, and has been honored with at least one Project of the Year award each year since 2018.
