Located on the Norwegian continental shelf in the North Sea, the Gina Krog oil and gas field produces natural gas and light oil condensates from sandstone structures approximately 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) below sea level.
The colossal ‘Mariner’ platform represents a large investment into upholding a high standard of safety in a seriously dangerous environment. Collaboration between local and global suppliers meant a commitment to creating good infrastructure to remain in operation up to and beyond 2030. The primary task, to keep almost 800 workers onboard safe and comfortable in harsh operating environments. Protection required meant included isolating noise at the source required effective noise protection within bulkhead and accommodation partition walls.
To produce an improved acoustic comfort level, noisy pipes were suitably insulated on board the offshore accommodation platform. The supply was no issue with over 1800 rolls of Wavebar 6kg ordered and delivered on time, while the easy install meant a quick turnaround.
Pyrotek’s flexible mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) noise barriers offer superior acoustic transmission loss to provide adequate performance, testing, and compliance with Norsok R-004 acoustic requirements for pipe lagging tested to ISO15665. One main benefit is broader compliance as it passes several classes.
Wavebar® can be installed around LNG and cryogenic pipelines, inside cavities, over lightweight walls/ceilings, adjoining partition walls, or as a noise curtain. The material conforms to EN 12079-1, DNV 2.7-2, based on SOLAS, IMO FSS Code and MLC as well as CSC.
With a long history in similar applications, it was only natural for the shipyard to work with Pyrotek who gladly provided turn-key service together with distributor partner AIM-Tech.
With ISO 9001 quality system certification, DSME are confident the highly specialised product will continue to meet the specification and performance requirement for the entire period of operation life. SOLAS The primary task, to keep almost 800 workers onboard safe and to be more comfortable in harsh operating environments.
