5 Important Safety Tips Around Home Swimming Pools
The opportunity to take a dip on your home pool without having to go to public swimming pool, is a convenience that is difficult to give up. However, as entertaining as they are, pools pose a significant risk. Ensuring your pool is safe to use is not only imperative, but it’s also a legal requirement. Public swimming pools usually have one or two lifeguards on duty per pool to ensure the safety swimmers. This isn’t possible in home swimming pool which unfortunately have a high risk of accidental drowning, especially for children. Parents and adults need to be very diligent about the safety of the children in the home pool to prevent drowning or injury of any kind. Be aware that accidents can happen and it is extremely important to pay close attention and take all necessary precautions to manage and prevent them as much as possible. Here are some tips to improve home pool safety:
1. Think about the safety of the whole swimming pool area
Adequate fencing is required around the pool area by law. Fences and should be high enough so that children are unable to climb over and gates need to be self-closing with the lock inside the pool area.
2. Ensure everyone understands the importance of pool safety
Both adults and children must understand the importance of safety rules in the home swimming pool, dedicate time to discuss the various precautions to be taken with the family, specifying safety rules that are essential for enjoying your swimming pool in safety.
3. Learn to swim
Make sure everyone who uses the swimming pool can swim, both adults and children. Keep in mind that if you can't swim, you won't even be able to help someone in trouble. Provide life jackets and tubes for the children who haven't learned how to swim yet.
4. Prepare for emergencies
Learn CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and make sure all adults are familiar with the home swimming pool safety rules. Keep near the home pool, in an easily accessible place, a rescue kit containing the necessary for first aid, life buoy, floating tubes and a telephone to call for help. Clearly visible instructional CPR signage is also required by law to be present in the pool area.
5. Always supervise children
Children under five are the most exposed to the risk of drowning so it is essential to supervise when they are in the water or in the area surrounding the swimming pool. Adults also need to be careful and take the necessary precautions to prevent accidents and keep the home swimming pool a fun and carefree area.
