Solar Lighting
Solar lighting captures and stores the sun's energy to generate light using photovoltaic technology. These lights can be used indoors and outdoors as solar street lights, solar garden lights, as well as solar emergency lights. They are especially useful in areas and situations where it's not possible to connect to the central power grid.
How Solar Lighting Works
Photovoltaic (PV) cells are used to create solar lights. They absorb the sun's energy and generate an electric charge that flows through the panel. The solar cell's wires connect to the battery, converting the energy into chemical energy and storing it until it is needed.
Later, the battery uses this energy to power an LED bulb (light emitting diode). The diode, a semiconductor that allows electrons to move between its two points, creates electromagnetic energy in the form of light.
LED technology produces light up to 90% more efficient than incandescent or fluorescent lighting. This makes it ideal for solar lighting systems. LED bulbs do not burn out like traditional light bulbs. Instead, they dim as time goes by. Their typical lifespan is tens of thousands of hours, compared to the thousand hours for an incandescent bulb or a halogen bulb.
Types and Uses of Solar Lighting
The rise in solar lighting sales is due to the growing demand for low-carbon energy sources.
Solar lighting is a low-cost, attractive and easy-to-maintain solution for businesses, homes and public infrastructure.
Here are some examples of solar lighting applications:
Solar Street Lights
Solar street lights have the advantage of stability, long-service life, simple installation, safety, great performance and energy conservation. This kind of light can be widely installed on urban roads, in living districts, factories, tourist attractions and parking lots.
Solar Emergency Lights
Solar emergency lights can be used anywhere because they are portable and sturdy. Some locations may include:
• Rural areas that are not electrified
• Parking sheds and huts for cars
• Resorts and other public areas
• Or as an emergency lighting system for commercial and residential buildings
These lights come with both a solar panel and a USB cable so they can be charged using both solar energy and electricity.
