Jackson Teece was one of five design firms chosen by Cbus Property to participate in a limited ‘Design Excellence’ competition for a new residential tower on the corner of Elizabeth and Liverpool Streets facing Sydney’s Hyde Park. The proposed building will replace a 1980’s commercial office building opposite the heritage Mark Foy’s building in this emerging residential precinct.
Our proposal included a new Museum station entry on the street corner as well as an opportunity for a café restaurant adjacent to a new residential entry. The design concept included a range of residential apartment types that were designed to provide managed environments for living spaces which will have northern and western aspects. The design of the balcony glazing changes throughout the tower, depending on the height and aspect, to mitigate strong winds, traffic noise and solar heat loads, while maximising views and the amenity for residents. The design was prepared with the assistance of Arup’s Sustainability Group.
Our design was one of two shortlisted for further design development prior to a final selection, in which we were unsuccessful.
