Lendlease was engaged by Lonza to provide Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services for Lonza's first mammalian cell campus development in Singapore.
The facility comprising Manufacturing area, QA/QC Laboratories, Warehousing, Offices, Central Utilities and supporting site infrastructure is a replica of Lonza's existing plant in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA.
With a capacity of four nos. 20,000L bio-reactor trains, this commercial-scale facility for the production of Avastin is the first in Singapore and one of the largest in Asia.
The Greenfield development with 26,000 square metres of floor space spread over three floors occupies four hectares of land in the Tuas Biomedical Park 1 in Singapore.
This was a fast-track project with Procurement, Detailed Design and Construction Fit-out taking less than 24 months. As the overall Project Manager, Lendlease managed and coordinated the Engineering and Procurement effort between the US and Singapore.
In all, nearly 1,000 pieces of equipment were installed on the project, together with 75,000m of clean piping, 25,000m of non-impact utilities, 130,000 dia. inches of welds and over 19,000 I/O points.
The project secured the Singapore Workplace Health and Safety Council's SHARP Award for excellent Workplace Safety.
This highly complex and technically challenging project was successfully delivered on time and under budget.
