Marina Edge is the second development at Port Coogee by Cameron Chisholm Nicol for Iris Residential (formerly TRG Properties)
We worked closely with the client and the City of Cockburn to take full advantage of the oceanfront site, located in a prominent position directly on the marina at the heart of the estate.
The development is arranged horizontally into two separate elements – a three-story podium and a five-storey tower. The podium creates an activated, low-scale streetscape on the waterfront, and wraps around to a third street frontage where it conceals the internal above-ground car parking. A structural solution was developed to integrate both tower and podium with the car parking levels, saving on cost by minimising transfer structures.
A variety of apartment layouts maximises available views over the marina and up the coast. The north facing apartments are staggered to expand their outlook. This creates a visual contrast to the western facade, which overlooks the marina.
Apartments are entered from weather-protected open air walkways to the rear, allowing the majority to offer natural cross ventilation.
The oceanfront location subjects the apartments to the full brunt of the weather, and protection from the elements was an important consideration. Moveable sun screens afford residents a degree of weather protection without restricting views from the generous balconies and living areas.
Marina Edge builds on our growing experience in design and construction for coastal environments, as Perth continues to embrace the advantages of apartment living.
