Chengdu Smart Media City

In September 2021, QUAD studio participated in an international competition for a Media City in Chengdu Xinchuan Innovation and Technology Park in the Zhonghe area of the southern part of the Chengdu High Tech Zone. In collaboration with Dalu Architecture, our design was awarded first runner up and consists of 4 office towers, a service apartment, and retail podium spanning across 2 sites.

Located in South of Chengdu CBD in Xinchuan Innovation and Technology Park on the cross roads connecting to Metro Line 6 and future line 25. The mixed-use development blurs the lines between Nature, Medical Industry, New media, Big Data and a new retail experience. Inspired by the next generation and their future lifestyle comprising of the influence of big data, we explored opportunities to create a series of immersive space for people to journey into the social interaction.    

Pixels are the foundation of information, inspired by this concept of pixel manipulation, we create a media city by creating 3 dimensional objects based on these pixels.

The design breaks the solidified paradigm of closed big box commerce creating porosity between the building and the city. The building develops a high-permeability for social interaction, while improving the accessibility and connections to the adjacent commercial streets

Multi-level open space of various types and scales are allocated within the development depending on the level of privacy. Eco plaza are open public realm at ground level for mass gatherings and social interactions, Green Links at upper level allow breathing space for people using the media city for both work and entertainment. Sky gardens a located in the most private pockets of open space within the office allowing staff breathing space.

To increase social interaction in the work space, we create creative terrace and incubation nodes and multiple levels above the podium.
