"Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2022" Leading Local and International Interior Designers Join Hands to Elevate the Industry to Facilitate Industry Development

(14th October, 2022 | Hong Kong) To celebrate the achievements of local outstanding interior designers, widen industry newcomers’ exposure and promote Hong Kong's interior design overseas, Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA) will host the Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2022 at Tai Kwun, Central from 14 to 20 October, 2022. This is an event sponsored by “Create Hong Kong”, a project of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

To continue the success of last year, the Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2022 will take place respectively in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, featuring expo, international forums, Asia pacific student workshops, open house programme and the 30th Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards Presentation Ceremony 2022. It targets to facilitate communication between the industry and the general public by sharing the latest interior design concepts, at the same time deepening public’s knowledge and understanding of the interior design profession.

Expos in Hong Kong and Guangzhou to Demonstrate Creativity and Strength

With the theme "The Power of Hong Kong Interior Design", the expo at the Duplex Studio of Tai Kwun, will feature the works of 10 local interior design companies. 3D creation “INVERSE” by IN SITU & PARTNERS Limited presents the spatial characteristics in the old buildings in Hong Kong through old concrete and polished brass. O & O Studio, founded by the local interior duo, will present appealing interior designs that integrate visual art, community and local features. In addition, there are the work of ADO Limited which integrates elements of human care and art and culture; energetic showcase by the young and creative F&B interior design company, Room Five Concept; and Tiny-Huge Design Limited which advocates the merging of living and design and coexistence with art, etc. After the expo at Tai Kwun, all these impressive pieces will be exhibited at the Guangzhou Design Week from 9 to 12 December to promote exchanges within the interior design community in the Greater Bay Area.

What’s more, there will be 18 interior design works by the students from 6 local tertiary institutions. Students from the School of Design, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will present a printing press, a detailed kitchen and a futuristic fantasy island for Sui Fai Factory Estate. Students from the Department of Architecture and Department of Interior Design of the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education showcase design that incorporates creativity and contemporary aesthetics. Students from the Hong Kong Design Institute, the Hong Kong Community College and the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong will also exhibit extraordinary creative works.

International Forums with Leading Interior Design Professionals

Up to 20 scholars and renowned designers from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore and the UK will attend the international forums. Forum speakers attending on-site or through live-streaming include Professor of the Royal College of Art, London, and interior designer, Graeme Brooker; Vice-President of the Society of Interior Designers Singapore, Fann Zhi Jie; winner of “World’s Outstanding Chinese Designer 2015”, Hong Kong famous interior designer Lo Chi-wing; winner of “Interior Design of the Year”, renowned Hong Kong designer Steve Leung; and founder of the DesignWire in China, Ma Haijin, etc. A total of five forums will be held over three days from 17 to 19 October , to cover topics such as "Interior Design Pedagogy", "Hong Kong Interior Design Power", "Design Thinking of Asia-Pacific Interior Design Award Winners", "Interior Design and Innovation: "From Concept to Practice" and "New Chinese Aesthetics and Multidiscipline Design", to invite the global industry and the public to share their design vision, demonstrate the infinite possibilities of design, and elevate Hong Kong interior design to international standards.

Open House Programme to Gather Community Support

Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2022 will collaborate with 10 interior design stakeholders, including Central Market, Wontonmeen Youth Hostel, William's Studio and interior design showrooms, to organize open house programme. From 14 to 20 October, 2022, the general public can enjoy free tours of the special projects to learn about the latest interior designs, materials and technologies, and experience the power of Hong Kong interior design industry.

Workshops Nurture New Talents in the Industry

Asia Pacific student workshops will be held during the interior design week, with participants from Hong Kong Design Institute, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the School of Architecture and Allied Art of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Jianghan University and student representatives from Singapore to conduct group-discussions, sharing and reports, in order to strengthen the interior design and creative exchanges of the three cities.

Mr. Horace Pan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Interior Design Association, said: "Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2022 will not only reinforce the role of Hong Kong interior designers in the community, but also recognize exemplary design projects with local and international influence and celebrate the talents and strengths of emerging interior designers in Hong Kong. Through exhibitions, forums and workshops, we aim to showcase the creativity and diversity of Hong Kong's interior design industry, encourage cross-disciplinary collaborations and dialogues, nurture young designers, and promote public awareness of Hong Kong interior design."
