Transforming Heritage: Highlights from the State Theatre Revitalisation Seminar
On Friday, December 13, New World Development hosted a seminar on the revitalisation of the iconic State Theatre at the HKGTA Town Club, New World Tower, Central. The event featured Mr. Matthew Potter, Director of WilkinsonEyre and Head of Asia Pacific, who shared insights into this groundbreaking project poised to redefine the cultural landscape of North Point.
For over seventy years, the State Theatre has held a unique place in Hong Kong's history. As the city’s first Grade I historic theatre conservation project undertaken by a private developer, New World Development is committed to transforming this landmark into a world-class integrated heritage development.
During the seminar, Mr. Potter discussed the visionary architectural concept of a "Vertical Cultural City" that integrates 'live, work, and play' elements. He unveiled previously undisclosed design features, including the extraordinary "parabolic exoskeleton truss" on the roof, a unique architectural element that highlights the project’s innovative approach.
“This project pays tribute to the rich history of the State Theatre while revitalising its significant cultural essence,” said Ms. Cannas Ho, General Manager of Sales & Marketing (Special Projects) at New World Development. “Our collaboration with WilkinsonEyre ensures that this historic site will thrive as a vibrant community space for future generations.”
The seminar attracted a diverse audience of community members, design professionals, and heritage enthusiasts, all eager to learn about the State Theatre's future and its potential impact on local revitalisation efforts.
