Hong Kong, December 1, 2021 – As part of CBRE’s corporate social responsibility efforts, the company is delighted to sponsor the WELL DUNK! public estate-based basketball league and training program 2021-2022.
The program is organized by InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports), a local charity established in 2012, with a vision of developing better youths through sports. Having been rolled out for the third year, the program aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through professional basketball training for youths aged between 13-17 living in public estates, particularly those who are beneficiaries of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, School Textbook Assistance Scheme, or Working Family Allowance. CBRE is sponsoring “Lai Tak Sages”, a team of 18 young basketball enthusiasts from Lai Tak Tsuen, the basketball league’s first team on Hong Kong Island.
Tom Gaffney, Regional Managing Director, CBRE Hong Kong said, At CBRE, we love sports especially local sports and are very proud to be sponsoring IHKSports’ WELL DUNK! program and to support team ‘Lai Tak Sages’. With a strong commitment to giving back to the local community, it is a privilege for us to be part of the WELL DUNK! program to help promote sportsmanship and ensure the holistic development of Hong Kong’s next-generation.”
After winning their first group match on 27 November, the team was invited to visit CBRE’s office on 30 November, getting a close look at the state-of-the-art workplace as well as learning about the day-to-day operations of a global real estate services company through group sharing.
Judy Kong Ka-wai, Chief Executive, InspiringHK Sports Foundation, said, “Thanks to our corporate sponsors such as CBRE, we are able to host the program at a larger scale. Running for the third year, we have expanded the program to 40 public estate-based teams and established girls’ teams for the first time this year. Over the past two years, we have reached out to up to 700 youths, offering them the opportunity to undergo professional basketball training and tournaments as well as exposure to corporate sponsors, which they may not have had otherwise.”
Under the program, all members receive a sponsored team jersey, shopping vouchers for sports shoes, professional training, and support, building team spirit and skills through practice and competitions.
Rooted in Hong Kong for over 40 years, CBRE has been dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting underprivileged groups. Last year, the company rolled out a year-round charity program in partnership with ChickenSoup Foundation with the primary purpose of assisting underprivileged families impacted by COVID-19.
CBRE Hong Kong is a 15 Years Plus Caring Company awarded by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
