Background:
Mission:
Abodo timbers are harvested from New Zealand’s FSC® certified rapidly renewable plantation forests, and are one of the only truly carbon negative building materials. Plantation forestry helps address climate change through absorption of carbon dioxide which is a green-house gas. As it grows, a tree absorbs vast amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere.
As a policy, during the lifetime of the product, one and a half new trees have grown in the original tree’s place. This makes the product a carbon negative and truly self-sustaining building material.
Abodo timber products are produced from New Zealand grown Radiata Pine and Douglas Fir. Radiata Pine is one of the most effective species at sequestering carbon dioxide because it is fast growing that allows high rotation harvesting, approximately every 27 years. Radiata Pine is not only fast growing and it has a relatively high yield.
Abodo’s Vulcan thermal timber is one of the lowest embodied carbon modified woods with superior thermal performance.
Abodo maintained that 230 degrees Celsius is the critical temperature to achieve exterior durability.
In contrast the European Thermowood D schedule modifies softwoods at 212 degrees Celsius. Established data shows that this is an unsuitable level to achieve durability for Radiata in exterior applications.
For improved dimensional stability and resistance to cracking, Abodo timber is produced in a vertical grain orientation. The Vulcan Vertical Grain process has been Patented in USA, NZ, AU.
Abodo's thermally modified timbers have proven their long-lasting quality, combining stability, durability, sustainability, and proof against rot and termite once LOSP treatment is applied.
Abodo timber compares favourably with alternative as shown below to EN12667:
Abodo supplies specialized high quality fixings and a series of environmental safe timber finishes for protection and maintenance.
Abodo timber will take most stain and protective oil well, for increase UV resistance and color choice.
