With concerns around climate change growing, sustainability has become a key part of the agenda for both consumers and manufacturers, and bathrooms are no exception. Homeowners now expect sustainability to feature high on the list of priorities for designers and manufacturers, with water saving, in particular, a key part of this.
As well as the environmental benefits, consumers are also becoming increasingly aware of the financial benefits that sustainable living can bring. The drive from water companies for water meters has increased consumers’ awareness of the financial benefits to water saving, with many searching for water-saving techniques that can also save them money in the long-term.
At Ideal Standard, we expect this trend towards water efficiency to continue and, with a well-designed bathroom and the right technology, we know that the bathroom industry can provide solutions to address these issues head on and make sustainable living and money saving through water conservation, a reality.
Water saving solutions
It may sound obvious, but choosing to take a 5-minute shower over a bath, or turning the tap off while brushing teeth are examples of small changes to the daily routine that can make a huge difference when trying to conserve water. However, many acknowledge that water conservation needs to go beyond these simple changes, with people now actively looking for ways they can make impactful changes and incorporate sustainable living techniques into their everyday lives.
One of the easiest ways that customers can reduce water consumption is by installing products with water saving technology. With bathroom designers focusing more and more on sustainability, there are now plenty of products on the market featuring this type of technology.
At Ideal Standard, we have removable flow regulators pre-fitted as standard into all our basin mixers. These ensure amaximum water delivery of 5 litres per minute in high pressure central heating installations, such as those using combi boilers. Using Pressure Compensating Aerator (PCA) technology, which mixes air into the water stream, users can benefit from a softer and what appears to be a more voluminous flow, which is actually using less water.
Our shower handsets and shower heads are similarly equipped with removable regulators helping to produce water flows that feel higher than they actually are. The result being that consumers can save water without feeling any difference while they shower.
One-of-a-kind technology
Some customers might want to reduce their water consumption, but do not want to remodel their entire bathroom. In these instances, simply swapping a single appliance, such as an old toilet for a newer model with water saving technology, could make a huge difference. With toilets contributing to a significant amount of a household’s water use, consumers are often surprised by the impact such a small change can make. Many of our toilets are designed with our patented AquaBlade® technology. This unique system uses the same amount of water as a traditional toilet but is far more efficient, hygienic and easier to clean. Toilets which use this innovative technology also come with dual flush capabilities, to ensure superior flushing performance even at a low-water volume.
It is clear that the demand for sustainable solutions in the household is only going to get more prevalent, with innovation set to continue to play a critical role in the bathroom industry’s sustainability efforts. This is good news for consumers, who will find it easier than ever to install water-saving appliances in their bathrooms, helping to reduce the impact of water consumption on the environment and the cost of their water bills each month.
