What Makes 3M a Top-Ranked Corporate Citizen?

Corporate Responsibility Magazine recently named 3M the 22nd best corporate citizen for being a standout business in the areas of environmental, social and governance performance. What has 3M done in the past year to earn this honor? Here are four reasons we think 3M was named a 2019 top corporate citizen:

 We’re designing solutions that do more with less material: As of the beginning of 2019, all new products entering 3M’s new product commercialization process will have a Sustainability Value Commitment. 

We’re improving our environmental footprint: In 2019, 3M’s global headquarters became powered by 100% renewable energy, the first step in the company’s goal to procure 100% of total electricity from renewable sources by 2050. 

We’re sharing our passion for science with the communities around us: In 2018, we continued our work to increase student interest in STEM through programs like 3M Visiting Wizards, which shares the magic of science with students through demonstrations and hands-on experiments. 

We’re making a difference by expanding our 3M Impact program: The 3M Impact Global program sends 3Mers from around the world to an international location where the need is great, and the work is relevant to our businesses. Piloted in 2018, 3M Impact Local enables 3Mers to collaborate with organizations dedicated to enacting positive change in their own 3M communities. And held for the first time in early 2019, 3M Impact in a Day is a half-day service hackathon that connects 3Mers with Twin Cities nonprofits seeking functional expertise on a specific project.
