Situated in a beautiful town of Nantou County in central Taiwan, this stylish two-floor white building was once a newspaper office. It is characterized by its elegant round-shaped stained glass window, with its façade resembling the face of a photojournalist’s camera. Now it is converted into an antique shop. The design of the round window, the moon-shaped door and the spiral pattern makes the shop itself a piece of attractive artwork.
No doubt the round window brings good visibility to the shop and increases much joy and fun. But this big round window with its 4.6 meters’ diameter also delivers annoyance in summer days: strong glare deteriorates the visual comfort, while the heat distracts the visitors from enjoying the artwork. The shop owner has been looking for solutions from blinds companies. However, due to the window’s peculiar shape and the project’s small size, it is hard to find a suitable company, until they met the HJS Drapery Design and Production Studio, Ltd.
Jun-Sean Huang, the President of the Studio, learned from a Japanese master in his early years. After he set up his own business, he keeps on working with an attitude of diligence and conscientiousness, endeavoring to create heart-touching works. It is a precious challenge for them to design the blinds for this peculiar round window.
Master Hua of the Studio is in charge of the manufacture of the blinds. Based on the principle of the traditional folding fan, the blinds are made into two sets of fan on the left and right, each set has 7 leaves. They are motorized to provide solar protection for the round window.
Accessories like brass rings are carefully selected and assembled. Serge Ferrari’s Soltis Harmony 88 (https://www.sergeferrari.com/products/soltis-range/soltis-harmony-88) is selected as the fabric for the blinds. Thanks to Serge Ferrari’s world-wide exclusive Precontraint technology, Soltis Harmony 88 has extraordinary dimensional stability. The screens can work like the leaves of an electric fan, driven by the motor, to fold and unfold. No worry of deformation or sagging. The elegant black color perfectly match the design of the shop. With its 8% opening factor, the fabric maintains visibility from inward to outward, while reducing the glare. When watching from outside, the folding and unfolding of the blind screens generate a kind of mysterious effect to the shop. The 2.67m width of the fabric also meets the request of the 2.3m radius of the window. Serge Ferrari is honored to have contributed to this mindful project.
