The oldest international law firm in the world, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer decided, in early 2017, to relocate its Hong Kong office from the Central district to Quarry Bay. The project comprised 48,000 square feet at 55F and 56F One Island East and was carried out on a fast-track basis. Among other requirements, Freshfields outlined the following initial goals:
• a very high level of sound isolation between rooms
• several collaboration spaces that allow people to meet informally
• an in-house café where staff can gather for dining and office events
• provision of a wellness facility for re-charging and regeneration
The above objectives were resolved during the planning, design and construction documentation process by a design team that included an MEP Engineer, Acoustic, Lighting , Artwork and Graphic Design Consultants, and an Authorised Person and Structural Engineer for design of the new stair. After the main contract was awarded, an eleven week construction period followed – including the time required to fabricate and erect the internal stair.
