We were involved in the design of a marina which was within an existing lake adjacent to the River Stort in Roydon. Essex. The entrance into the marina is controlled by a 30m pound lock which enables the boats to step the 830,mm between the river and marina water levels.
We designed the lock using a traditional form of structure, materials and techniques being the first privately owned lock to be constructed in the past 100 years. High flood levels in the area required the new clubhouse and chandlery to be supported by a steel frame 15m above the existing ground level.
The scheme also included a piled servicing area and the assessment of an old canal bridge to ensure it has sufficient strength to support the construction traffic.
