URBIS has won a Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) Professional Award for our research study at the landscape restoration of the South East New Territories Landfill (SENT). This was one of only four awards presented this year and the only award won by a private consultant. The study comprised a comprehensive survey and statistical analysis of the success of individual plant species used over the last 20 years at the SENT Landfill restoration. It also looked at the influence on the landscape restoration of factors such as climate change, invasive weed species and wild boar activity. The study will be highly beneficial for the design and management of future phases of the landscape restoration at the SENT and SENT Extension Landfills. The judges commented: “Jurors were impressed with the detail and clarity of the information presented, and the range of site factors surveyed and analysed within the study, especially the relation between soil, vegetation, and site conditions. They considered that the information generated had great potential to inform landscape practice in future”.
