International Built Environment Week (IBEW) 2024: Solving for Tomorrow, Today
SINGAPORE, 19 JULY 2024 – [MEDIA PARTNER] As built environment practitioners, a problem is always seen as a challenge waiting to be solved—how to make things better, approach challenges innovatively and turn abstract ideas into reality.
It is with this in mind that the sixth edition of the International Built Environment Week (IBEW) returns with the theme “Solving for Tomorrow, Today”. Over three days from 4–6 September 2024, the conference will explore various topics including modern methods of construction, sustainability, collaborative contracting and lean construction.
Engineers today play a critical role in the push for sustainability in the built environment. As more companies and building owners are required to publish detailed carbon accounting, engineers can make an outsized impact on projects, from greenfield to retrofitting projects. Over two days of IBEW, sessions on carbon accounting and decarbonisation will bring guest speakers from a wide spectrum of sectors, including developers, financiers, certification bodies and solution providers. Carrying on the theme of finding solutions that can be applied today, IBEW will explore technological developments in construction automation through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), construction robots and 3D printing.
Yet, overcoming engineering challenges is possibly easier than overcoming the structural challenges behind mindsets towards innovation. Thus, a plenary titled Overcoming Barriers to Innovation in the Built Environment will feature leading minds from top companies that have spearheaded transformative change and made innovation a part of their companies’ DNA.
IBEW 2024 also partners with industry associations to co-create educational pathways for engineers. As part of the conference program, there will be workshops and seminars along two tracks: Mechanical & Engineering and Civil & Structural. Masterclasses including Decarbonization for ASEAN Data Centres, Demystifying Digital Twins and CORENET X BIM Approvals will provide a deep dive into these topics.
