About Budji + Royal Architecture + Design
THE COMPANY BEHIND THE MASTERPIECES BUDJI+ROYAL Architecture+Design was established by Budji Layug and Royal Pineda. They envisioned a company that celebrates a total approach to design; where the demands of architecture, interior design, furniture, home accessories and landscaping are brought together to complement one another creating an integrated whole. Seeking the delivery of quality, efficient and professional service to a growing global market, Budji and Royal entered into a creative collaboration in 2001. The partnership has created a synergy that brings the distinctive style Budji+Royal is well-renowned for. This total design firm has set a performance standard: each work must be a masterpiece. The firm respects the unique character of each project and works around this to create a custom design solution. It refrains from repeating itself. The only constants present in all works are innovation and the harmonious blending of various design elements. Budji+Royal is constantly evolving and staying at the forefront of design internationally. The firm welcomes the challenges each new project presents with vigor and bringing the style— Organic Modern—to the world. The firm adheres closely to this design philosophy: Design, in whatever discipline, reaches excellence when form and function co-exist harmoniously. OUR VISION A Total Design Firm providing holistic, extraordinary and inspired solutions that create lasting, positive impact on the natural and built environments, around the world. We are Budji+Royal. OUR PHILOSOPHY We are committed to Design Excellence. We always push ourselves to achieve solid design solutions that are beyond the ordinary. A Modern Organic sensibility coupled with an innovative bold spirit, continuous research, technical expertise and advance technology serve as our strong foundation. A deeper understanding of every client’s requirements and goals, sensitivity to a project’s place, and how this will translate to an improved quality of life and a meaningful human experience sparks our creativity. BUDJI LAYUG Designer The third of eight children, international designer of furniture and interiors Antonio “Budji” Layug studied at the New York School of Interior Design. Budji spent years travelling the world, expanding his understanding of foreign culture, art and design. Upon his return to the Philippines, Budji began to explore his native country’s landscape. In the mid- seventies, on a beach, Budji was fascinated by the skill of two men building a traditional bamboo outrigger canoe. Budji began to design furniture that incorporated traditional techniques and indigenous organic materials such as pandan, bamboo and Philippine hardwoods to create sleek, elegant and thoroughly post- colonial pieces. Budji’s extensive travel provided a wide range of aesthetics and experiences to select from. His background as space planner and interior designer has given him a highly developed sense of interior and exterior space. He insists each design fits into both. Budji’s reputation as an extraordinary artist stems from his holistic approach to design. He combines both state of the art technologies and his own contemporary furniture designs with an eclectic mix of art and antiques from all over the world. His fame as a furniture designer largely stemmed from his commitment to organic forms and materials, especially those found in his native Philippines. His fresh interpretation of those forms into uniquely modern designs. In designing furniture, Budji is as devoted to craftsmanship and detailing as he is to function and design. ROYAL PINEDA Architect A product from a family of academia, Royal Christopher Lopez Pineda completed his Bachelor of Science in Architecture at Polytechnic University of the Philippines under the Japan-Philippines cooperation university program. From 1997 to 2002, he acquired his professional training exposure from the firm of Philippine’s National Artist for Architecture, Leandro V. Locsin and Partners. Exposed to designing challenging and creative structures commissioned to the firm, Royal learned the trade in both the structure of its science and its art. Honed and developed in international design standards and professionalism under the administration of Locsin’s managing partner and mentor, Arch. Edgardo Ledesma, Royal comprehensively worked and collaborated with his counselor and colleagues during his post with the company. He took pleasure strengthening his career foundation during those early years. He is now the Principal Architect+CEO at BUDJI+ROYAL Architecture+Design. His architecture is modern, monastic and tropical in style. Royal is disciplined to envision and create Total Design that the company is known for: from master planning, architecture, interior design, to furniture and landscape design. Since partnering with Budji Layug, he has designed different projects in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia, United States of America, France, Germany, Thailand and Israel.
