December 7, 4:25 pm: The air is cold and wintry. A large number of Hansgrohe staff are crowded around the red carpet in front of the Hansgrohe Aquademie, as teams of photographers position themselves —waiting expectantly. But for what?
Next season’s professional
cycling team BORA – hansgrohe
were revealed to the world for the
first time at the headquarters in
Schiltach. A sensation for cycling
in Germany, because all teams
usually introduce themselves directly
at their training camps in
Spain or Majorca. The team were
received by 400 guests, among
them members of staff, sponsors
as well as numerous national and
international journalists. The
crowd, suitably decked out with
fan caps and clap banners, welcomed
the stars with thunderous
applause.
Rubbing shoulders with Sagan and Co
The cycling professionals did not miss the occasion, happily signed autographs and availed themselves for selfies throughout the evening. At a press conference, moderated by the team’s press officer Ralph Scherzer, the new jersey was also unveiled: more green, more hansgrohe and this should remain that way for the time being. “With the presentation of the jersey and the team for the 2018 season, at the headquarters of the hansgrohe brand in Schiltach/Black Forest, we are sending a clear signal of our extended commitment. With four well-known new members and a new jersey with a clearly visible hansgrohe logo, we are well placed for the coming year. Because ‘After the Tour is before the Tour’,” said Philippe Harinck, Head of Project Sponsorship. Powerful start Four victories and nine podium places in the three most important races in the cycling calendar, plus Peter Sagan’s third title in a row as world champion, was BORA – hansgrohe’s tally from last season. 2018 too looks set to be a successful season, in particular considering the new team members. The new arrivals are classic specialist Daniel Oss and the multiple British champion Peter Kennaugh, who can look back on plenty of racing experience. In addition, starting this season in the green-black jersey are Davide Formolo, one of the greatest Italian tour talents who has placed in the top 10 in the Giro as well as the Vuelta, and the Austrian climbing specialist Felix Großschartner.
