Occupying a prime location near Orchard Road, Singapore’s famed shopping district, Boulevard 88, a pair of private residential towers, is combined with and EDITION Singapore, the famed, limited brand, global boutique hotel. A lushly planted courtyard garden elegantly connects the hotel and residences, expanding the luxurious communal areas and available amenities for both residents and guests.
Designed for high density within an urban context, the building is broken down into smaller ‘urban building blocks’ to create premium living space for the entire development. The residential towers are lifted high above Orchard Boulevard on tall columns, raising the lowest level of residential units above the hotel and providing unobstructed views in all directions.
The architectural character of the development is defined by multiple skybridges and gardens. A bridge spanning the top of the 25 story residential towers creates a dramatic ‘urban window’. The bridge is replete with swimming pools and indoor-outdoor garden amenities exclusive for residents. A communal terrace between the hotel and towers provides an active sun deck, outdoor lounge and 50-meter swimming pool within a grove of mature shade trees. Below, the hotel is arranged as a ‘U’ plan around a lushly planted sunken garden, flanked by landscaped terraces on all sides. All the hotel functions –lobby, restaurants, bars, pre-event spaces and ballrooms have direct views into the central garden.
In order to mitigate the effects of the tropical sun and rain, operable lattice screens and horizontal fins shade and protect the windows, while staggered balconies extend the full height of the towers. A sliding aluminum screen system creates an ever changing hotel façade, as guests adjust the screens for views, shade and privacy.
The character of the residential towers is defined by balconies that shift in plan from one level to the next, creating double-height spaces. These shifts couple with the integrated planters to provide residents with a range of experiences.
The garden skypark, replete with swimming pools and garden amenities for residents, spans across the top of the residential towers, creating dramatic views of the city beyond.
