Em Gelato is located strategically just below the MRT station of Blok M, South Jakarta. Upon visiting the site, we realized how diverse and alive the street is, few of many street areas in Jakarta that allow pedestrian to walk by the street. The pink brick facade express playful character of the brand, creating a contrast with the street's uniform characters.
The space incorporate ideas inspired from details on the street that might be unnoticable but actually are everywhere, such as tile cracks that leaves some part of the flooring imperfect. Instead of covering it, we wanted to highlight the crack with an art that comes in a form of mosaic tiles.
Inspired from the skate park, the seating resembles quarter-pipe which is a type of skateboarding ramp that is shaped like a quarter of a circle. The idea of making diamond grid pattern came from the EM's ice cream cone that freshly made everyday. The grid also create an underground train station feel inside the shop. These are perfectly complemented Gerson's graphics that reminds you of movie posters that displayed along the street. While queuing, customer can see what's inside the kitchen or just take a selfies from the street mirror, creates a memorable experience with friends and family.
