The project is located on a steep hill of Dago Pakar Resor, located in Bandung, West Java where it has a tropical setting with high humidity and rainfall. The client wishes to create a humble and contemporary house with a small amount of maintenance.
The challenge comes from the site that has a declining 17 meters height between the front and the back of the site. But from an architectural point of view, it creates an illusion of a one leveled story house for people passing by.
The house has 4 stories with each story has its function dedicated for different users. The First-floor plan is created mainly for the head of the family, it creates a flow where the client does not have to go back and forth between floors for their daily activity. The second floor is dedicated for their children and guests which comes occasionally, complete with their very own living and dining space. The third floor is for the maids, and finally the fourth-floor functions as his golf workshop and a place to gather with family and friends.
From the rear, simple geometry and color configuration between walls, shape a massing of white stacking boxes. The monochromatic white color forms a frame, and dark chocolate color creates depth in architectural form.
In the interior, each room has a big window creating a frame overlooking the other side of the hill. By using folding doors, the opening does not have any intervention and it breaks the boundary between the indoor and outdoor.
The concept of the house is a mixed style between modern and ethnicity. The architecture itself plays a role as a blank canvas, whereas ethnic furniture completed the architecture as a whole. These elements find an echo in the interior design choices of the house. Inside, a palette of timeless materials is blended; white walls and ceilings adorned with wood, as well as loose furniture elements made of wood. The floor finishing has an important role as a complementary to create ethnicity blends with a minimalist style of architecture.
Beyond the choice of noble materials guided by the project's desire for durability, the house integrates a number of elements aimed at optimizing its energy consumption such as big opening with a cross-ventilation system, a high ceiling to trap heat from coming inside completed with insulation, and a choice of energy-efficient lighting.
