PROPOSED RECONSTRUCTION, INTERMEDIATE TERRACE HOUSE
JOO CHIAT WALK, SINGAPORE
TO BE COMPLETED 2018
The existing building was built on poor soil conditions, which caused the structure to sink, causing deep cracks along the brick walls internally. It is precisely this reason that the building needed a reconstruction.
As the owners also asked for a 3rd storey space and did not fancy pitched roofs, we therefore set about creating a series of boxes that help structure the facade in a systematic manner. A perforated screen that climbs up the left half of the building folds at the 3rd storey to form a trellis for the upper floor's terrace space.
The internal space was also optimised by changing the dog-leg staircase into a straight staircase up to the second and 3rd storeys.
