Kylau Common Space by Suaruang is an architectural project that redefines the experience of enjoying coffee in a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Located in the city of Depok, this project was designed with a vision to become a meeting point for the local community, offering a comfortable and aesthetic space to interact, work and enjoy quality of the coffee and the space.
The design of Kylau Common Space combines modern and natural elements, reflecting the dynamic yet culturally rich character of the building itself. The facade uses natural materials such as sand textured walls, row of plants and natural stone, which not only blends with the surrounding environment but also emphasizes its uniqueness. Glass is installed along the façade to provide interaction between pedestrian and the building users and also provides natural lighting in the room. The entrance is made into prominent accent with a design in the form of a semi-outdoor hallway located under the floating façade to create a short journey into the building.
The massing of the building is divided into two main building united by one roof that are connected by a stainless bridge that giving the impression of a wider space and also creating interaction from the 1st to the 2nd floor. With a skylight at the center of the building as building divider, it is also function to capture natural sunlight to create shades that continue to move as the day progresses, reducing the need to use artificial light. The stairs as the only main vertical circulation in the building are located in the middle of the building below the stainless bridge and directly facing the main entrance which will create interesting and unique light reflection during the day so that it will become a vocal point of the design. Several voids are also created in various corners of the room, which are expected to provide good air circulation throughout the building.
The layout of Kylau Common Space is designed with high flexibility, accommodating various activities from workshops, presentations, to community events. The interior of Kylau mostly combines raw and modern materials, such as plywood and natural stone that we combined with modern materials such as stainless steel and glass to provide variety and a unique atmosphere.
